Newsletter Spring 2002

President's Message

It is not unusual for State Park personnel to rotate from one district to another. That is reason in part why we always incorporate our “View from the Park” article. It is always exciting for us to introduce our members to new personnel. In this newsletter we are welcoming Ralph Fairfield as the new Chief Ranger for outgoing Chief Ranger, Bob Culbertson.

What is unusual (and wonderful!) is that recently we have been able to welcome back some State Park personnel previously “lost” to transferring. We like to think they enjoyed working with us so much, they wanted to come back!!

The first person we would like to focus on is Barbi Barry. Barbi left South Sector to work in the Central Sector (New Brighton Beach, Seacliff Beach). She had the opportunity for promotion and opted to accept new responsibilities. When Larry Tierney (seen with Barbi in this photo) decided to take a position at Henry Cowell, this gave Barbi another opportunity not only for advancement to Maintenance Superintendent for the sector, but to return to the Forest of Nisene Marks. It’s good to have her back!

Another person we are glad to see again is Stephanie Price. Stephanie was the Supervising Ranger for the South Sector. She accepted a position as the Supervising Ranger in charge of training (Field Training Program). We were fortunate that her husband, C.L., applied for and was granted her position in the South Sector. C.L. has recently been promoted to Superintendent I at San Juan Bautista State Historical Park (Monterey District, Gavilan Sector. With his leaving, Stephanie was asked if she would return to her former position in the South Sector. Gratefully for us, she has accepted and the Forest is in good hands again!
