President's Message
I’d like to officially welcome our new Supervising Ranger, C.L. Price, who has been on the job for several months now. During this time, we’ve come to appreciate his dedication to doing the job right, his high energy and good spirits. We are confident the park is in good hands.
As glad as we are to have C.L. on the job, we are sad to lose Stephanie Price who moved on to be Field Training Supervisor up at Henry Cowell. During her short time with us, she made a tremendous impact and set a very high standard for effectiveness as a manager. She remains a close friend to the park and the Advocates.
As you probably know, the South Sector has been severely understaffed, due to transfers and promotions. C.L. has been doing a fine job juggling schedules so Nisene will have at least some ranger presence. Happily, this situation will be corrected by July, when new rangers (fresh from training under Stephanie!) will come on board bring us back to full staff.
The Advocates have been accomplishing a lot over the winter. We’ve had 2 new interpretive panels built, fixed a major slide on Westridge Trail, kept culverts open all the way up the road, replaced a dangerous footbrige with a new culvert at Bridge Creek Historic Site, put in trail signs, clipped poison oak, built the Pourroy pedestrian bridge, and more. There are many people to thank. The Reed Picnic Area interpretive panel is the work of Jeff Thomson and Margaret Hicks. Jim Belcher has been taking care of downed trees. Sandy Erickson has cleaned the wooden bridges on most trails. Linda and Michael Moore, Chris Angelos, Carole Cuminale, Chris Foster, Paul Tichnor, Greg and Margrite Weaver (and too many more to name!) all have brought energy and good will to our workdays. Also thanks to all of you who send us money – you make our projects possible.
And a special thank you goes to Larry Tierney, the South Sector Maintenance Supervisor. His help, energy, goodwill and organizational skills, enable us to get our projects done and are directly responsible for getting Nisene through another winter in good shape.
