Historical Photos

Between 1883 and 1923 the land which covers most of what is now the Forest of Nisene Marks was the site of an extensive timber industry which clear cut most of the old growth redwoods in the area. The following photographs provide a glimpse of that period including the mill site, the rail lines used to transport the timber and the original Porter house.
