Sunday, November 17, 2013, Trail Work
We had a small but hard working crew today. Maureen Thrash got us off to a good start with coffee, orange juice, and blueberry muffins in the morning, before she headed off on a ride to Sand Point. Patrick Courtright, Shawn, Norm and John Fuchs headed down the trail with folding saws, loppers, and McLeods to brush back the Waggoner Overlook, Aptos Rancho, and Terrace Trails. The day started out cold and gray, but before too long, the sun and the work warmed us right up. There were a lot of appreciative hikers, runners, families, and cyclists on these popular trails. And, a lot of happy dogs. It was just another beautiful weekend day in the Forest!
We also ran into Advocate Dave Hofkins leading Katie Neubauer, Save the Redwoods League Major Gifts Officer, and her husband, Joe, on a tour of Marcel’s Forest . They are as excited about working with us in the Forest as we are with working with them. It looks to be the beginning of a very promising relationship.
Like all of our trailwork days, it’s amazing to see how much can be accomplished in a few short hours of working on the trails. The sense of accomplishment, the enthusiastic appreciation of the trail users throughout the day, and the satisfaction that comes from knowing that you are “giving back” to the park, makes for a very fulfilling day. Come join us on our next trailwork day and experience it for yourself!
