Plants of the Forest

Common Name: Himalayan Blackberry Scientific Name: Rubus discolor
Blooms: In Marcel's Forest (May - August) Native: No. Introduced Plant

Special Comments:  While there is a species of blackberry which is native to the area, the blackberry growing throughout Marcel's Forest is the introduced Himalayan Blackberry. This plant often takes root after the soil has been disturbed in some way. Natural disturbances such as flooding, or mechanical man-made disturbances often create a perfect place where this blackberry can succeed other plants.

One of the best places to see this plant is at Pourroy's Picnic Area and at the Kiosk by "Split-Stuff Trail."
