The familiar flowering currant can been seen all along "Old-Growth Loop" and in the Pourroy Garden where it blooms as early as March. In Marcel's Forest, its pretty pink blossoms turn to berries in late July and early August. Native Americans dried currant berries mixed with animal fat to be stored for winter use.
Unlike its relative, the gooseberry, which has spines on its stems and berries, the flowering currant is spineless with alternate leaves.
