Plants of the Forest

Common Name: Gooseberry Scientific Name: Grossularia sanquineum
Blooms: March - June Native: Yes. Native of the area

Special Comments:

Look for the red prickly spines that cover the stems and berries of the gooseberry plant. Gooseberries have red and white fuschia-like blossoms (red at the base with white petals) noticeable in spring. A small patch of these plants can be seen on Old-Growth Loop trail near the overlook to the Pourroy's Picnic Area.
