Plants of the Forest

Common Name: Heavenly Bamboo Scientific Name: Nandina domestica
Blooms: (March - July) Native: No. Introduced Plant

Special Comments:  Just about every California plant nursery sells Heavenly Bamboo. In fact, you might have this plant growing in your yard at home. If you think that Heavenly Bamboo is out of place in the redwood forest, you're absolutely right. This is an introduced plant, far removed from its native China habitat. Since this plant is found only feet away from the main Pourroy garden at the edge of the ravine, it's likely that it was planted.
