Plants of the Forest

Common Name: Hedge Nettle Scientific Name: Stachys bullata
Blooms: (April - September) Native: Yes. Native of the area

Special Comments:  Hedge nettle is one of the most common plants growing throughout Marcel's Forest. Its leaves grow opposite each other on the stem and are covered with soft hairs. Unlike stinging nettle, the hairs of the hedge nettle leaf won't burn and sting your skin when you touch them. Look for hedge nettle to bloom from May through September all along Old-Growth Loop Trail.
