Although these beautiful plants grow throughout the forest, look for a patch of these flowering plants along old Growth Loop trail near the exit to Twisted Grove and in the Pourroy Garden. In Marcel's Forest, they bloom in May and June.
Several books mention that the long, side fibers of the leaves were used by Native Americans (including the Ohlone) to make bolas for hunting. The Indians would twist the fibers together to make a strong rope which could be used to ensnare animals and bring them down.
All parts of the iris are poisonous.
