Plants of the Forest

Common Name: Osoberry Scientific Name: Oemleria cerasiformis
Blooms: May - July Native: Yes. Native of the area

Special Comments:  The osoberry is a large, deciduous shrub that you'll find growing at the head of the ravine in the Pourroy Garden. In February, leaves start to appear. By July, the plant has produced bright orange-red berries that turn a deep blue-black later in the summer. The green, untoothed leaves grow in an alternate pattern on the stem and are three times as long as they are wide.
