Special Comments:  Red alders are commonly seen along streams in redwood forests usually with their roots sitting right at the water's edge. They can be easily identified by toothed, alternate leaves with edges that curl under, and a gray-white patchy bark.

Several red alders make their home in Marcel's Forest along the bank of Aptos Creek near Pourroy's Picnic Area.
