Trillium, also called western wake robin, is a common plant growing in shady, moist areas within the redwood region. In Marcel's Forest, trillium starts blooming around the beginning of March. Trillium blossoms start as white and turn to purple.
Named "trillium" (beginning with the prefix "tri") because of its three leaves and three-petaled flower, this plant can be found on the east side of the creek near the seasonal bridge, at the Pourroy Garden, and along Old-Growth Loop at several shady sites. Trillium is sometimes confused with the Pacific Starflower which has similar leaves. |
